Over many years and decades industry “experts” have made predictions and judgments that, years later, seem short-sighted and in fact humorous in some circumstances.
Fast forward to 2015, the clients who partner with Wilpak have a long term view, and that’s why we love what we do. Take a look, and see if there might be something you are missing.
We’ve picked some of our favourite “fails” and compiled them here (Part 3 of 4).
“X-Rays will prove to be a hoax” – Lord Kelvin, President of the Royal Society, 1883…Some things sound so good it’s hard to believe they are real, like highly effective insulated packaging with a minimal environmental footprint.
“No one will pay good money to get from Russia to Potsdam in one hour when he can ride his horse there in one day for free” – King William I of Prussia on trains, 1864…Is short term cost cutting on your pallet covers affecting your end result?
“Television won’t last because people will soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night.” – Darryl Zanuck, movie producer, 20th Century Fox, 1946…We’re not tired of TV and our customers are not tired of their temperature sensitive products arriving in perfect condition.
“The horse is here to stay but the automobile is only a novelty – a fad.” – The president of the Michigan Savings Bank advising Henry Ford’s lawyer not to invest in the Ford Motor Co., 1903…Regular monitoring of your fridge temperatures should be more than just a novelty, it should be a cornerstone of your business processes.
“Rail travel at high speed is not possible because passengers, unable to breathe, would die of asphyxia.” – Dr. Dionysius Lardner, 1830…What once seemed impossible is now normality, like transporting temperature sensitive products without refrigerated trucks.
